My path to President of PolyJohn has given me the opportunity to see our business from several very different perspectives. Before joining PolyJohn, I worked for a portable sanitation operator—one of the customers we serve today. An unexpected opportunity brought me to PolyJohn at a time when my kids were young, and it offered something incredibly important to me: the ability to spend more time with my wife and family.

I started at PolyJohn as a production scheduler and eventually moved into the Plant Manager role. That experience gave me a real appreciation for what our employees go through every day to take care of our customers. More importantly, I saw firsthand the pride our people take in the work they do.

Later, when our CFO unexpectedly suffered a heart attack and was away from the business, I was asked to step in and help. I knew very little about finance at the time—and I know at least a little more now—but there was a need, so many of us stepped up. That experience showed me another side of PolyJohn and gave me an even greater appreciation for all the work that happens behind the scenes. There are a lot of people doing incredibly important work that customers, and sometimes even the rest of us, never see.

Those experiences have shaped the way I lead today. My “why” is to support others through trust, encouragement, and coaching, and to help people recognize what they are capable of. I want PolyJohn to be a place where people enjoy coming to work every day, know they are appreciated, and understand that what they do matters.

We serve everyone from single-person operations to some of the largest companies in our industry, but behind every one of those businesses are people working to provide for themselves and their families. Our people at PolyJohn play an important role in helping them do that, and I never want us to lose sight of that connection.

For me, that connection is personal. My wife and kids are the most important people in my life. Time with them is what matters most to me and, ultimately, why I do what I do. It also keeps me grounded in what I believe business and leadership are really about: people, families, and helping others succeed.
